Dear Jones County voters:
I am Wendell Bart Gavin Jr. I am a 49-year- old lifelong resident of Jones County. I am a husband (Dana), father (Josh, Abbey Smith and Alex), father-in-law (Josh Smith), and a proud grandfather (Gavin T. Smith). I am the son of the Ruth Townsend Gavin and the late Wendell B. Gavin Sr. My wife is the daughter of Coach Sonny Farrar and Jeanette Stanley Farrar.
My educational background includes R.H. Watkins, JCJC, Bachelor of Science degree (History and Political Science) from USM and a Masters degree from William Carey (Educational Administration).
I have 24 years experience as a public servant in Jones County serving with the Department of Human services, USDA Soil Conservation Service, as a teacher and administrator with the Jones County School District, and as your circuit clerk for the last eight years, I have worked hard as your circuit clerk. Voter rolls have been updated. We have one of, if not the best maintained rolls in the state. We have worked extra hard in removing disenfranchised felons and implementing voter ID.
All county and circuit court files of active cases in both Laurel and Ellisville are now being stored electronically. I have also worked hard in preparing voting machines for elections, maintaining all court dockets, issuing summons and all other duties assigned to the circuit clerk. Most importantly, I have strived to provide my staff with a professional, friendly environment that is beneficial to them in doing their jobs and will continue to do so if elected chancery clerk.
My wife and I attend Crosspointe Community Church.
I am the president of the Laurel Kiwanis club, past master of Ellisville Lodge No. 161, past president of the Laurel Metro USM alumni and longtime serving secretary of the Laurel Shrine club.
