Forrest woman killed in SW Jones crash | Free News

A Forrest County woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon in southwest Jones County, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Cynthia Townsend, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2017 Jeep Wrangler she was driving crashed into a tree off Old Progress Road just before 4:30 p.m.

It appeared that the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, but when the driver attempted to pull back on the roadway, over-corrected and caused the vehicle to spin in the roadway, according to the JCSD report. The Jeep then slid off the road and struck a tree on the driver’s side.

Jones County volunteers responded along with EMServ Ambulance and Deputy Coroner Ernest Hollingsworth.
